In the Eisenhower Knights season opener at Werner Park on Monday, the home team got behind early and by the time they got their opening game nerves settled down, the visiting Youngsville Eagles had opened up a lead the Knights could not make up and fell to the Eagles 14-4.
The visitors scored three runs in the first inning, all three runs coming with two outs on timely hits by Keegan Mesel, David Manning and Aiden Mancuso.
The Knights struggled defensively and getting hits off Eagles starter, freshman David Manning who was making his first varsity start, Eagles head coach Eddie Dorunda said “just a real good win by David. His curveball was really working for him, he is gonna be fun to watch in the coming years.”
Manning lasted four innings and gave up two hits and one run, he struck out six.
Shawn Pascuzzi was the starting pitcher for the Knights, the junior right hander gave up seven runs on five hits over two innings with one strikeout. Griffin Williams and Spencer Wynn came in from the bullpen for the Knights and pitched four innings and one inning respectively.

Brock English, Kael Hunt, Derek Childs, Pascuzzi and Cameron Jakubczack each had one hit for the Knights, Eisenhower head coach Clinton Course stated “we got off to a slow start, and you can’t do that against a good team and they are a good team. I thought Griffin pitched well for us, we have some things to work on.”
Youngsville racked up 11 hits in the game, James Johnson had four stolen bases and in total the Eagles ran wild on the base path with 16 stolen bases in total.
“Our boys had this game circled on the calendar, it’s a rivalry game and the kids were ready to play,” Dorunda stated. “We came out aggressive on the basepath, I thought we had some really timely hitting today.”
