Warren’s Alana Stuart made sure the Lady Dragons wouldn’t start the season 0-5.

The sophomore pitcher struck out 16 Corry Beavers in a 2-hit, 3-0 shutout win on Saturday in North Warren.

Offensively, Stuart was 3-for-3, scoring 2 of the 3 Warren runs and knocking in 2 of the 3 runs.

After striking out the first 8 Corry batters of the game, Stuart gave up her first of 2 singles in the game to ninth-place hitter Kendyll Chamberlain. Stuart would allow one more baserunner, reaching on a dropped ball error in the top of the seventh. Stuart induced a 1-4-3 double play the very next batter.

Stuart’s line drive home run to right in the bottom of the third inning gave Warren a 1-0 lead. Her RBI double in the fifth upped that lead to 2-0, and Halle Kuzminski knocked Stuart home with a two-out RBI single.

“Alana definitely had a great game,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “Today, everything was clicking. She had their batters off-balance and uncomfortable. When she’s on, she’s hard to hit. She’s been putting in a lot of extra work trying fix a couple things and it paid off today. Offensively, we strung a couple hits together at the right time to give us a little more breathing room in the seventh, which was nice.”

Corry — the defending District 10 Class 3A champion — is 3-4 overall. Class 4A Warren finished with 6 hits in the win.

Starting at $3.50/week.
