Knights post 72-54 victory at Kane
KANE — The Eisenhower Knights boys basketball team came into halftime on Saturday against Kane clinging to a two-point lead, but head coach Ryan Mangini made some adjustments and turned a close game into a 72-54 victory.
The Knights had the hot hand to open the game, scoring 26 points in the opening quarter. Senior Wyatt Lookenhouse drained three 3-pointers and fellow senior Kael Hunt added one, as Eisenhower led 26-16 after the first quarter.
The Wolves began to chip away in the second quarter as they outscored the Knights 19-11 to pull within two points at the half 37-35.
The third quarter was a different story.
Eisenhower outscored Kane 20-9 — aided by treys from Johnny Palmieri and Hunt — to push the margin to 57-44 heading into the final period.
Palmieri hit a pair of 3-pointers and and the Knights were 3 of 4 from the foul line to keep the Wolves at bay.
Hunt had 20 points and Lookenhouse added 18 to lead Eisenhower. Ricky Zampogna had 14 points for Kane.
“I thought Kael had a great game on both ends of the court,” Mangini said of Hunt. “He, Palmieri and Casey Seymour put a lot of pressure on their guards. And the fact that we had only eight turnovers were huge keys to us getting the win on the road against a tough Kane team.”
