Ike tops Union City

UNION CITY — The Eisenhower Knights traveled to Union City to face the Bears for their second of three matches this week and came away with a dominant 48-15 win Wednesday.
Union City took its only lead of the night with a forfeit win at 107 pounds then it was all Knights as they won 10 of the next 12 matches.
Junior Griffin Williams was impressive at 114 pounds as it was a back-and-forth match for three periods, but Williams got the late escape to pull out a 10-8 decision.
Junior Ryan Chambers followed with a pin at the 1:05 mark in the 121-pound weight class to put the Knights up 9-6 and they never looked back.
At 127 pounds, Cam Ferrand took a forfeit.
Junior Cole Kellogg pinned his opponent in 55 seconds followed by teammate Derek Childs’ pin at the 1:12 mark of the second period.
Eisenhower held a 27-6 lead before the Bears’ Steven Klakamp won an 11-4 decision over Cam Jakubczack.
At 160 pounds, the Knights’ Tucker Lindell squared off Zach Beckwith. The match was back and forth, and tied 10-10 when Lindell got a reversal and muscled his way to a pin at the 1:09 mark of the third period.
At 172 pounds, Union City’s Drake Applequist pinned the Knights’ Bryceton Wilkins in the second period before the Knights’ Benji Bauer got a quick pin in 49 seconds at 189 pounds.
The Knights’ Brok English had the match of the night at 215 pounds. English went toe to toe with the Bears’ Nathan Long and found himself down 4-3 with under 10 seconds remaining in the match before he earned an escape with 4 seconds remaining in regulation. Not content to head into overtime, English caught Long and earned a quick takedown to win 6-4.
At 285 pounds, the Knights’ Mike Vanatta took a forfeit to make the final score 48-15.
“I’m just super happy with how the guys wrestled tonight, especially going on back-to-back nights,” Eisenhower head coach Jared Lindell said. “Tonight was a lot of fun, we just have to keep it rolling into the Falconer Tournament this weekend.”
