Eagles rally past Maplewood
It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
The Youngsville boys basketball team trailed at the half, but turned things on in a big way in the second half of a 50-33 victory over the Maplewood Tigers on Friday at Youngsville High School.
The Eagles trailed 14-11 after a quarter and 20-19 at the break, but quickly turned things around in the third quarter. After being held to just 2 points in the first half, Koby Hendrickson scored 6 points in the third quarter alone as the Eagles built a 31-27 lead through three quarters.
In the fourth, Youngsville kicked things into overdrive.
Blake Myers scored 8 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and Nathan Lucks added 7 of his own in the stanza as the Eagles used a 19-6 fourth-quarter advantage to turn a close game into a rout.
Lucks finished with a team-high 16 points to go with Myers’ 13 and Hendrickson made it a trio in double figures with 12 points.
Youngsville won’t have to wait long to try to extend the momentum of Friday’s victory. It hosts Kane at 6 p.m. today.
