Five quick pins helped Warren put Youngsville away, 42-21, on Wednesday in a wrestling match at Warren Area High School.
To start the match, Warren’s Damien Sanchez and Joe Krall earned first-period pins at 189 and 215, respectively, to give the Dragons a 12-0 lead.
Sanchez pinned Logan Dougherty in 189 pounds after a two quick takedowns. Krall took down Graeme Minnis for an eventual pin at 1:20.
Youngsville fought back with James Johnson’s 8-4 decision over Ryan Fitzsimmons at 121 pounds and Ian Mancuso’s third-period technical fall victory over Cam Williams at 127.
With Warren ahead 18-14 after seven weight classes, Conner Zaffino’s pin at 133 pounds was the first of three in under a minute to put the Dragons up big. Zaffino pinned Micheal Carnahan in 28 seconds and Grant Heeter and Evan Swanson earned pins nearly as fast later in the match.

After Zaffino’s pin gave Warren a 24-14 lead, Logan McDonald earned a major decision for Youngsville at 139 pounds. McDonald led 7-0 over Josh Letko after two periods en route to an 11-2 major.
Aidan Mancuso’s hard-fought 6-4 decision over Warren’s Jordan Tuttle at 145 brought the Eagles to within 24-21, but that’s as close as they got.
“We had a lot of youth in there tonight,” said Youngsville coach David Myers, adding that the winless Eagles are working hard to overcome young mistakes. They have a good opportunity at this weekend’s Tool City Tournament in Meadville.
Myers said the growth has been made easier due to the fan support this team is receiving. “That was a nice crowd tonight,” he said. “(Youngsville fans are) traveling well right now.”
With a three-point team lead, Grant Heeter and Evan Swanson put the match away for Warren with pins in 30 seconds and 49 seconds, respectively. Heeter quickly took down Owen Auflick for the pin at 152 pounds, and Swanson earned his first varsity pin at 160 over Youngsville’s Aiden Turner.

“We, as a team, have been battling some sickness,” said Warren coach Glenn Baldensperger, whose Dragons are 4-1. “Damien, Joey, Conner, Grant and Evan all went out and took care of business. Conner Zaffino continues to show what commitment to the offseason does. I believe that was Evan’s first and biggest varsity win. Ryan (Fitzsimmons) moved up from 114 to 121 to get a match in, (and) gave it what he had against a much larger opponent. Josh Letko didn’t look his best coming off an illness, but credit to Logan McDonald, he wrestled very well for the Eagles.”
Warren will join Youngsville Friday and Saturday in Meadville.
