ERIE — The Youngsville junior high wrestling team took four wrestlers to the Battle on the Bay at the Bayfront Convention Center on Sunday and three out of the four wrestlers placed.

Medaling for Youngsville were second-place Ayden Dean, third-place Carsyn Branstrom and fourth-place Mason Fleming. Also wrestling, but not placing, was James Crawford.

Dean started off hot by pinning Jesse McClelland of Wattsburg in 2:59 to advance to the semifinals. He then followed up his quarterfinal showing with a gutsy, come-from-behind 12-10 win over William Stanley of Cambridge Springs. He then fell to Gavin Bricker of Trinity by fall in the finals.

Branstrom began his round robin with a tough matchup against Ethen Ringer. He nearly went the distance with Ringer before falling by technical fall 17-2. Branstrom rebounded by pinning Jackson White of Girard in 1:21. Branstrom was then tasked with another tough matchup in the form of Lukas Kuffer of General McLane. He lost by fall and finished out his tournament in third place.

Fleming started off his second-ever tournament with a stout matchup against Blake Fry of Muncy. Fleming battled hard, but ultimately lost by fall in 2:44. He then reeled off three straight wins, including two pins and a major decision, in the consolation bracket to reach the consolation finals where he once again squared off with Fry. Fleming again battled hard, but lost by fall to place fourth.

Crawford began his first-ever tournament by facing returning Keystone state qualifier Knox Dibert of Northern Bedford. He fought hard, but lost by fall in 1:47. Crawford rebounded by winning his first-ever match over Carson Braley of Falconer by a score of 4-2. Crawford then fell in the consolation semifinals by fall to Hunter Miller in 2:41. Crawford and Hunter were deadlocked in a 0-0 match at the time of the fall.
