TITUSVILLE — It’s been a few years since Warren has advanced as many as three runners to the PIAA cross country championships in Hershey. On Saturday, the Dragons did just that with senior Shyann Rulander and freshman Morgan Alexander qualifying in the District 10 2A girls’ meet, and sophomore Sam Lindell among the D10 2A boys.
“It was a great run at the District 10 Championships today for the Warren Dragons,” said Warren coach Kevin Dustin. “We had three individuals qualify for the PIAA State Cross Country Championships next week in Hershey. I think it’s been about five years since we have had three go.”
Lindell finished third on Saturday out of 115 male finishers in a blistering 16:06 over the 3.1-mile course.
State qualifiers include runners from the top two teams — Cathedral Prep and General McLane — and the next 10 individual finishers.
Other Warren boys competing who did not qualify for states included freshman Cole English (92nd in 20:36); senior Louis Flatt (96th in 20:59); and freshman Parker Mowrey (104th in 21:57).
Rulander also earned D10 and state-qualifying medals by finishing 10th in 19:59 out of 106 female finishers. Alexander finished 14th in 20:17 to qualify.
Lady Dragons competing on Saturday who did not qualify for states included junior Kasey Kophazy (72nd in 23:28); freshman Loralei Johnson (78th in 23:45); freshman Riley Evan (96th in 25:35); and freshman Brady Caudill (101st in 27:53).
“Nine out of 10 that ran today had huge personal bests, which is what we strive for,” said Dustin. “We want these kids running their best at their last meet of the year. We are excited to run next week at Hershey and hope to bring home some medals from there, too.”
