The Warren Dawgs took on the Kane Tornadoes on Wolverine Mountain in Sheffield and came away victorious with a dominant 26-0 win.

Tanner Stuart ran for the first of his three touchdowns on the day on a long run to make it 6-0. Stuart then hit Bentlee Moore on a pass to make the score 7-0.

Stuart again broke free for a long touchdown run to extend the lead to 13-0. The extra point attempt was no good.

The stingy Dawgs defense held the Tornadoes all afternoon, stuffing the rush attack and forcing the Tornadoes into several costly mistakes in the first half. Grant May snagged two first-half interceptions on deep pass attempts.

The Dawgs defense showed its grit after a potentially costly pitch was caught by the Tornadoes and returned to the Dawgs’ 7-yard line in the waning moments of the first half. The Dawgs proved their resilience by stuffing back-to-back rushing attempts before Clayton Hammerbeck nearly intercepted a low pass attempt by the Tornadoes quarterback just before halftime.

Coming off a 13-0 halftime lead, the Dawgs got the ball in the second half. After a few back-and-forth strong defensive series by both teams, Blake Peterson found a crease on a long touchdown run to extend the lead to 19-0. The extra point attempt was no good.

The Dawgs defense continued its defensive dominance, again forcing another Tornadoes turnover on a fumble recovered by Connor Smith. Tanner Stuart tacked on a sack to his all-around performance.

Stuart struck again in the fourth quarter when a late punt call forced the Dawgs to keep their defensive unit on the field. Stuart moved from his linebacker position to punt returner, fielding the punt and outrunning the pursuing Tornadoes as he sprinted to his third and final touchdown for the afternoon. Owen Damcott ran the extra point attempt in for a 1-point conversion, extending the lead to 26-0.

The Dawgs’ strong defensive effort was led by Jeremiah Lyon’s 10 tackles, followed by Stuart’s five tackles, Bentlee Moore’s five tackles and Collin Havers’ four tackles.

The Warren Dawgs ran for 341 total rushing yards, led by Stuart’s 172 yards on the ground as eight different Dawgs ran the ball.

The Warren Dawgs advance to a 2-1 record and will face the Warren Hogs on Sept. 11 on Wolverine Mountain in Sheffield.
