Dragons post tennis sweep over Bradford

After a close loss on Saturday, Warren’s girls tennis team swept Bradford 5-0 on Monday at Betts Park.

“This was a nice pick-me-up to hopefully give us some momentum going into (today’s) region matchup with McDowell,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino.

At first singles, Iris Kiehl defeated Bradford’s Allisiya Dansberger 6-0, 6-1.

“Iris had control of this match from start to finish,” said Warren coach Travis Myler. “She was hitting her targets on her serve and ultimately just had too much for Allisiya to handle.”

Warren’s Grace Carr also earned a singles win, 6-3, 6-1 over Sydney Hamer. Lucy Harrison defeated Elianna Corcle 6-1, 6-1.

“Lucy took control of this match early so we decided to focus on playing more aggressive today with some bigger forehands and aggressive net play,” said Pellegrino.

Kaelin Hatfield and Izzy Heacox defeated Emmy Kenck and Sophia Wright 6-0 6-0. At second doubles, Madalynn Perry and Sydnie Cochran defeated Ava Peterson and Isabella Ramos 6-0 6-0.

“Our doubles played great today and didn’t even let up a single game,” said Warren coach Mike Kiehl. “This was our first 5-0 win of the season and was nice to get back in the winning column after two hard losses to Fairview and Grove City.”

Pellegrino said McDowell has a “deep team, so we know it will be a battle.”

Warren hosts McDowell at 4 p.m. today at Betts Park.
