RUSSELL — The Eisenhower Knights picked up where they left off last week and scored touchdowns on their first two possessions Friday night in their hard-fought 27-14 win over Cambridge Springs.
Senior running back Benji Bauer scored the first of his two touchdowns on the night on a 2-yard run. Setting up the score on the drive was a big 38-yard run by fellow senior Keegan Eckstrom. Junior Cole Kellogg was true on his first of three point-after kicks on the night giving the Knights an early 7-0 lead.
The Knights would get the ball back after a Blue Devil punt and drove down to their 33-yard line when junior quarterback Shawn Pascuzzi would find Eckstrom on a 33-yard touchdown pass.
“Cambridge Springs traditionally plays insanely hard-nosed football and tonight was no different,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said. “I thought our guys rose up and stood toe to toe with them.”
Pascuzzi would connect with senior Garrett Jensen for a 38-yard completion setting the Knight up on the 2-yard line before Bauer punched it in for a touchdown. Bauer would finish with 174 yards on 22 carries.

Cambridge Springs would score just before the half on a fourth-and-9 play from the Knights’ 11-yard line when quarterback Morgan Applebee would connect with Bryce Kania for a touchdown pass.
The Knights put the game out of reach in the third quarter when they completed a 15-play, 99-yard drive capped by Pascuzzi calling his own number up the middle. Kellogg’s kick was good giving the Knights a 27-7 lead.
“I can’t say enough about our senior linemen: Conner Younger, Caleb Penley and Mike Vanatta,” Penley said. “Those guys moved some serious mass tonight, They just created a surge for our running backs all night.
The Blue Devils would add another touchdown pass when Applebee hooked up with Kania again from 23 yards. The kick was good putting the final score at 27-14.
“This game was a great test for us tonight,” Penley said. “We need to work on some things, but we relied on our seniors and they stepped up. Junior Tucker Lindell: what a game he had eight carries for 70 yards behind our line.”
