Locals well-represented in Elysburg

ELYSBURG — Warren County was well-represented last weekend when more than 400 middle school and high school trapshooters from across the state participated in the state competition held at the Pennsylvania Shooting Sports Association’s home grounds.

Warren County claybusters had 42 participants over the two-day event where the best of the best came to compete.

This group is really a travel team comprised of shooters from several different clubs, but it is sponsored by the Corry Trapshooting Club.

“This group comes together to represent Warren County,” said club leader Sherry Anderson. “They did very well this year. There were an awful lot of good competitors this year and I thought we did very well.”

One of the high school varsity teams, consisting of Blake Mitchell, Jacob Swartzfager, Nate Shirley, Cole Nickerson and Tate Tasker finished in third place out of 26 teams with a score of 481/500.

The intermediate (6-8 grade) consisting of Logan Clark, Lamech Albees, Ian Shots, Jack Bisbee and Gavin Munster placed second out of 29 teams with a score of 438/500,

The junior (all ninth-graders) team consisting of Oakley Terrill, Tyler Biondi,Levi Merrill,Landon Anderson and Brody Burlingame took second-place honors out of 28 teams with a 451/500 score.

In individual competition in juniors competition, Blake Mitchell finished fourth with a score of 98/100.

“The kids really showed up ready to compete,” Anderson said. “The weather was good for shooting and they took advantage of it.”

Anderson is the coach of the Corry Trap Club, which also has students who compete on the team from Eisenhower high school, is no stranger to success as her club has been undefeated in the Warren County Trap League for 11 consecutive years and boasts a membership of more than 100 members.

“It’s a lot of work, but I love it, and the other coaches and the parents really make it like a family,” Anderson said.

The Corry Trap Club has boys, girls and special-needs students who compete from sixth grade and up.
