Dragons capture tennis invitational

MEADVILLE — Warren won the 10-team Tri-County Allegheny Gator Invitational on Wednesday at Allegheny College’s Robertson Tennis Courts.
“We won the event at second Singles, first Doubles, and second Doubles,” said Warren coach Travis Myler. “We were runners-up at first Singles, fourth Singles, and third Doubles. Made the semis at third Singles.
“It was a nice accomplishment for the team going into districts,” said Myler. “We have a home match tomorrow at Betts. District singles is Saturday.”
Will Strassburg won at second Singles with victories over Grove City (8-2), Hickory (8-2), and Greenville (10-7).
Champions for Warren at first Doubles were Max Harrison and Mark Lynds — 8-1 over Oil City, 8-5 over Grove City, and 10-3 over Harbor Creek.
Second doubles champs were Owen and Adam Strandburg, shutting out Oil City, 8-0, beating Grove City, 8-3, in the semifinals, and then winning a tiebreaker, 10-9 (7-4), in the championship over Harbor Creek.
Logan Fincher was second at first Singles, going 2-1 with a tiebreaker loss to Harbor Creek in the final, 9-10 (5-7).
Hugh Harrison was second at fourth Singles, losing 8-10 in the final vs. Titusville.
Derek Hahn and Jarod Peterson were second at third Doubles, finishing with a 3-1 record. The pair won a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8-4), in the semifinals over Hickory before falling 3-10 to Harbor Creek in the final.
Abe Wolf advanced to the semifinals at third Singles, Carson Moore and Hugh Harrison were 3-1 at third Doubles, Grady Corey and Brody Alexander were 1-1 at third doubles, and Jack Lynds and Otis Watt competed at third doubles.
“It was flighted for each spot with a giant third doubles pool of everyone not in the other spots,” said Myler. “There were 10 including us; Hickory, Greenville, Grove City, Meadville, Harbor Creek, Sharon, Oil City, Titusville, Rocky Grove, and Warren.”
