District 10 playoff schedule set
Warren softball opens Tuesday, Youngsville baseball plays Wednesday
A pair of Warren County teams will be put to the test when the PIAA District 10 baseball and softball playoffs get underway next week.
Youngsville has earned the No. 5 seed in the Class 1A baseball postseason and will take on No. 4 Maplewood in a 4 p.m. quarterfinal Wednesday at Slippery Rock University. The winner will take on No. 1 Saegertown on Friday. Wednesday’s other quarterfinal will feature No. 6 Kennedy and No. 3 Cochranton at 6:30 p.m. at Slippery Rock University. That winner will take on No. 2 Rocky Grove.
Youngsville finished the regular season 9-9 overall and 7-9 in Region 3. The Eagles beat Maplewood 8-3 at home on May 4 but lost at Maplewood 17-8 on May 11.
In Class 2A Monday quarterfinals, No. 8 Iroquois will take on No. 1 Sharpsville at 7 p.m. at Slippery Rock University and No. 5 Cambridge Springs will take on No. 4 Lakeview at Slippery Rock University. The other side of the bracket features No. 7 Union City vs. No. 2 Wilmington at 4:30 p.m. at Westminster College and No. 6 Mercer vs. No. 3 West Middlesex at 2 p.m. at Westminster College. Semifinals are Thursday.
In Class 3A Monday quartefinals, No. 8 Girard will take on No. 1 Hickory at 4:30 p.m. at Slippery Rock University and No. 5 Franklin will face No. 4 North East at 2 p.m. at Mercyhurst University. The other side of the bracket features No. 7 Mercyhurst Prep vs. No. 2 Titusville at 11:30 a.m. at Mercyhurst University and No. 6 Sharon vs. No. 3 Fairview at 4:30 p.m. at Mercyhurst University. Semifinals are Thursday.
In Class 4A quarterfinals Tuesday, No. 8 General McClane and No. 1 Cathedral Prep will do battle at 2 p.m. at Mercyhurst University and No. 5 Meadville will take on No. 4 Grove City at 4 p.m. at Slippery Rock University. On the other side of the bracket, No. 7 Fort LeBoeuf will take on No. 2 Slippery Rock at 6:30 p.m. at Slippery Rock University and No. 6 Harbor Creek will face No. 3 Corry at 4:30 p.m. at Mercyhurst University. Semifinals are Friday.
In Class 6A, Erie will take on McDowell for the title on Friday.
Warren earned the No. 3 seed in Class 4A softball and will take on No. 6 General McLane in a 3 p.m. quarterfinal Tuesday at Penn State-Behrend.
The Dragons are currently 12-4 overall in the regular season and finished Region 5 play 11-3. Warren beat General McLane 4-2 at home on April 25 and 5-0 on the road May 9.
Other Tuesday Class 4A quarterfinals include No. 8 Grove City vs. No. 1 Franklin at 1 p.m. at Allegheny College, No. 5 Hickory vs. No. 4 Conneaut at 3 p.m. at Allegheny College and No. 7 Fort LeBoeuf vs. No. 2 Villa Maria at 6 p.m. at Mercyhurst University.
Semifinals will be Thursday.
McDowell was already crowned the Class 6A champion as the only team competing in the postseason.
No. 1 Harbor Creek and No. 2 Jamestown received byes into the Class 3A semifinals. On Tuesday, No. 5 Sharon will take on No. 4 North East at 5 p.m. at Penn Satte-Behrend and No. 6 Corry will take on No. 3 Fairview at 4 p.m. at Mercyhurst University. Semifinals are Thursday.
In Class 2A Monday quarterfinals, No. 8 Iroquois will take on No. 1 Sharon at 5 p.m. at Slippery Rock University, No. 5 Wilmington will take on No. 4 Seneca at 3 p.m. at Penn State-Behrend, No. 7 Maplewood will take on No. 2 Reynolds at 3 p.m. at Slippery Rock University and No. 6 Mercer will take on No. 3 Union City at 5 p.m. at Penn State Behrend. Semifinals are Wednesday.
In Class 1A semifinals Wednesday, No. 4 Cambridge Springs will take on No. 1 Saegertown at 3 p.m. at Allegheny College and No. 3 West Middlesex will take on No. 2 Cochranton at 1 p.m. at Allegheny College.
All championship games are Monday, May 30.
