Tigers prevail

Maplewood hands Ike Region 2 softball loss

RUSSELL — Maplewood handed Eisenhower a 19-9 Region 2 softball loss Tuesday.

The Tigers (2-4, 2-4) scored five runs in the top of the first inning before eventually leading 15-0.

The Knights (1-4, 1-3) battled back in the fourth inning, breaking up a no-hitter by sending nine batters to the plate. Julia Gesing had two singles in the inning, Taylor Napolitan had a double, and freshman Tracey Jakubczak drove in three runs with a hit to deep left-center field.

Eisenhower got within seven at 15-8, and made it 15-9 in the sixth, but Maplewood tacked on four runs in the final inning.

For the Knights, Gesing was 4 for 4 and Napolitan took the loss.

In jayvee action, the Knights got the win 7-2. Peyton Frank was the winning pitcher.
