Fairview pulls away from Warren in Region 5

ERIE — Warren’s tough boys basketball season hasn’t gotten easier as the playoffs approach.

After a Region 5 loss to visiting Harbor Creek on Saturday, the Dragons fell to first-place Fairview 49-37 on Tuesday.

Logan Frazao scored 12 first-half points for Fairview, but Warren reached halftime tied 20-20.

The Tigers (17-2, 10-1) started to pull away in the third quarter.

“We sent them to the line before the start of the fourth,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine. “They ended up shooting 28 free throws.”

Fairview was 13 for 22 at the line in the second half. Frazao finished with 21 points.

Tommy Nyquist hit two 3-pointers in the first half for Warren, which is 11-8 overall and 8-3 and in third place in Region 5.

No Dragon finished in double figures in scoring with Parks Ordiway, Braylon Barnes, and Brady Berdine finishing with 8 points apiece.

“This was a very good game for us to be in as we get ready for the playoffs,” said Coach Berdine. “It was physical and chippy.”

Warren next hosts Oil City — Fairview’s lone defeat — on Friday.

Barnes also scored 20 points in Tuesday’s junior varsity game, a 53-29 win for Warren.
