Warren wrestlers edged by Punxsy

PUNXSUTAWNEY — “We should have had this match,” Warren wrestling coach Ted Carrington said of the Dragons’ 36-33 loss at Punxsutawney on Saturday.

Despite two forfeits and being pinned four times, Warren was within a decision of its first dual match win.

Josh Letko’s pin at 138 at 2:51 gave the Dragons a 24-6 lead. Punxsy (2-4) would earn three pins and get awarded a forfeit in the next four matches to take the lead.

Connor Hecei tied the score at 30-30 with a pin at 189. Tristan Dolan would give Warren (0-4) a 36-33 lead with a 7-5 decision at 215 pounds, but a forfeit at heavyweight sealed the Dragons’ fate.

“Today was just a rough day,” said Carrington. “The bus was late to pick us up, which gave us only 30 minutes to weigh in and wrestle. We gave up too many forfeits to ineligibility, sickness and missed weight. I’m not going to lie, this team needs to buckle down and think about what they want out of wrestling.”
