Warren swimmers, divers face tough McDowell team
ERIE — If you want to be the best, you’ve got to swim against the best.
Or something like that.
Warren traveled to Erie on Tuesday to take on Region 3 opponent McDowell, coming away with a 112-73 boys’ loss and 104-65 girls’ defeat.
Not without some successes and district-level competition.
Warren senior Katie Beyer easily won the 100-yard backstroke and 200 free at McDowell Intermediate High School. Warren finished 1-3-4 in the event with Kirsten Johnson and Madeline Walker earning third- and fourth-place results.
Summer Lucks won the 100 butterfly by just over a second.
Beyer, Johnson, Lucks and Sophie Olson finished first in the 400-yard free relay.
In the boys’ events, Hugh Harrison and Max Harrison won two individual events each. Hugh took the 100-yard backstroke and 200 free, and Max finished first in the 50 free and 100 free by .43 seconds.
Derek Hahn easily won the 100 fly.
In diving, Katie Madigan finished first.
“The Lady Dragons had three strong performances earning them first, third and fifth against a strong Trojans’ diving team,” said Warren diving coach Matt Madigan, “led by Katie Madigan with a 252.40, Izzy Heacox 172.5, and Alexia Bowers ended with a 128.05.”
“It was good to have this tough competition,” said Katie Madigan. “This experience will better prepare us for districts. We are continuing to improve every day.”
