Warren falls in Brookville final
BROOKVILLE — Host Brookville broke a 55-55 tie with 2:30 left and held off Warren 64-58 on Saturday in the championship game of its own tournament.
“We talked before the game that the better defensive team would win. It wasn’t us,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine, whose Dragons are 1-1. “Way too much dribble penetration, and defensive rotations were late.
“Offensively, we didn’t do a good job getting ball reversal to make them work,” he added. “However, it was a great game for us to be in early as all of the players on the floor during this game were role players last year or were playing jayvee or ninth grade. We’re still a work in progress. We learned a lot from this game.”
Senior JT Blum had 10 points for Warren in a 19-13 second quarter. Trailing 22-11 at one point, the Dragons cut the lead to 29-28 Brookville at the half.
Blum was 7 of 9 at the line in the third, and Owen Becker 4 of 4, for a four-point deficit.
Blum — named to the all-tourney team — led Warren with 21 points and Becker added 11 in the loss.
Warren scored the first bucket of the game, but never led again.
Parks Ordiway, also named to the all-tournament team, tied the game at 55-55 with 3:07 left before Clayton Cook put Brookville (2-0) up for good.
Brookville’s Danny Lauer was named tourney MVP.
