Warren seniors Katie Madigan and Halee Mineweaser are continuing to receive well-earned accolades from the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association (PVCA).

Madigan has been named to the PVCA District 10 Class 3A first team and Mineweaser to the D10 3A second team, according to pvcavb.org.

Madigan was a setter before moving to starting libero last season. This year, she switched again, and was a standout outside hitter for the Dragons, who advanced to the District 10 3A playoff semifinals before falling to Villa Maria. Warren (20-11-3) was the co-region champion with eventual D10 champion Conneaut.

Madigan finishes as Warren’s all-time leader in digs with 1,378 for her career, and with 370 kills this season — the second most in a single season — in her first year as an attacker. She had 22 kills and 20 digs in a four-set playoff loss to Villa. Her season high in kills was 30 in a game against Conneaut.

“The team had lots of highs and lows this season, but led by Katie and Halee, we always had a shot to win every match and we battled against all the best teams around,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “Whenever a team is competitive and does well, individual players may get recognized, and this year it’s nice to see these two seniors awarded and it’s a tribute to the team as well. I’d like to congratulate them for being honored by the PVCA as among the best in District 10 AAA. Great things can come with hard work and dedication and these two athletes never missed an opportunity to get reps in, whether it was playing pepper between games at tournaments, helping younger players and camps, getting extra digs between drills at practice, or taking advantage of every opportunity to play they could. They elevated everyone’s level of play and, as they get recognized, they would be the first to tell you that it was also the effort of their teammates that allowed them to shine.”

Mineweaser filled the stat sheet every night with digs, blocks, aces, and kills. She finished with 1,175 assists for her career in only two years as starting setter. She had 695 assists, 252 digs, 46 blocks, 51 aces and 95 kills her senior season.

Earlier this week, Mineweaser was named to the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) All-Region Team for Region 2, which includes players from Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. She’s among seven Pennsylvania players on the All-Region Team.
