Warren boys win Region 4 showdown

NORTH EAST — Warren’s boys soccer team won its third straight Region 4 match to start the season on Monday 4-2 over previously unbeaten-in-region North East.

A quick North East squad went up 1-0 six minutes in, but Warren answered one minute later. Ethan Best assisted JT Blum to tie the score, and Parks Ordiway put the Dragons up 2-1 two minutes after that off a Roman Sheets’ assist.

The lightning came and, after an hour weather delay, North East tied the score two minutes into the second half, and kept the pressure on.

After 33 minutes of defensive battle, Warren added a goal from JT Blum with an assist from Parks Ordiway in front of the goal.

Blum had the hat trick and the closer with 2:30 left; Ordiway led Blum, who headed the ball into the net.

Jack Darling led the team with 18 tackles and 16 steals, and was backed by the stellar defense of Finn Ordiway, Best, Ricky Madril and Chase Sitler. Madril and Best made game-saving tackles.

Will Nebinski battled off 13 shots on goal in net, saving 11.

Corban Reinard, Mark Lynds and Sheets put in solid minutes in the midfield in the win.

“The coaches anticipate a tight region race this season and this game definitely helped our young team mature on the field,” said Warren assistant Chris Darling. “We were proud of how they responded to a quality opponent.”

Warren is 3-0 in Region 4; North East 2-1.
