Duane “Toby” Robert Downey, 93, of Grand Valley, PA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 11th, 2026.

Duane was born on November 29th, 1932, to Charles and Helen (Swanson) Downey. He attended Enterprise Elementary School, graduated from Titusville High School in 1951, and went on to proudly serve our country in the Army from 1953 to 1955, including 17 months in Korea as a supply truck driver, and retired from National Forge in 1994 after 35 years.

Duane married the love of his life, Barbara Ord Carter, on March 27th, 1975, and together they built a welcoming blended home. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, pool, golf, playing cards, and square dancing with Barb, and was a talented woodworker who made toys and furniture for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the Fourth of July annual family reunions at the house. Annual Christmas dinner parties at each other’s homes with 3 sisters for 15 yrs as well as many canoe trips down Allegheny river with friends. Duane was a member of the Tidioute VFW as well as the Tidioute American Legion.

Duane leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara; their children, Ralph Wayne Carter of St.Augustine, FL, Cathy (Billy) Fultz of St. Augustine, FL, Connie (Terry) Cotterman of Tidioute, PA, Noreen Fulkman of Tidioute, PA, and Andrew (Jamie) Downey of Tidioute, PA; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Downey; daughter-in-law, Sandra Carter; and sisters, Elaine (Raymond) Armstrong, Maxine (Gerald) Billig, and Shirley (Gene) Wright.

Visitation will be held at the Tidioute Presbyterian Church, 196 Main Street, Tidioute, PA 16351, on Friday, July 3rd from 11am-1pm at which time a memorial service will be held there with Pastor Dennis Ledebur, officiating.
