McDowell wins final mega match, Dragons are 4th
ERIE — McDowell claimed the final Region 6 mega match in weather-shortened competition at Whispering Woods Golf Course on Wednesday.
With impending weather on the horizon, and players spread between the 13th and 18th holes, the coaches agreed to complete the match and determine team scores based on the total number of holes that all players had completed. Thus, results are based on the completion of 13 holes. Cathedral Prep’s Breckin Taylor and Joey DeAngelo shared medalist honors with rounds of 3-over par through 13.
Warren’s Owen Blum shot an 8-over 60 to pace the Dragons, while teammates Owen Becker, Conner Zaffino and Bryce Blair shot 63, 74 and 75 respectively.
Warren finished the day in fourth place with a team score of 255. McDowell held the top spot with a 236, four shots in front of second-place Cathedral Prep, the host.
Following are the final Region 6 standings after seven of seven events:
Cathedral Prep, 48 points; McDowell, 39; Erie, 33, Meadville, 29; Warren 26; General McLane 17; and Harborcreek, 10.
