Warren golfers place 5th at BHGC

Blum, Braddock shoot 80, 81 for Dragons

RUSSELL — Paced by a 1-under 71 from Breckin Taylor, Cathedral Prep claimed the Region 6 Mega Match No. 3 at Blueberry Hill Golf Club on Thursday.

Teammate Trey Thompson was four shots back with a 75 as Prep posted a team score of 311, good for seven points.

Owen Blum and Braddock Damore of host Warren shot 80 and 81 respectively as the Dragons posted a 352 and placed fifth.

Other individual scores were Michael Mahoney of Meadville, 77; Joey DeAngelo of McDowell, 78; Kyle Westfall of Erie, 80; Alex Vahey of Cathedral Prep, 82; and Jacob Eastbourn of Cathedral Prep, 83.

GIRLS TENNIS

WARREN LOSES AT MCDOWELL

ERIE — The Warren girls tennis team had some chances at third singles and first doubles, but ultimately fell to McDowell, 5-0, on Thursday.

“This was an extremely rough first week of matches, playing two tennis powerhouses from Erie back-to-back,” said Dragons coach Tom Pellegrino. “We are going to learn from it and come back stronger next week.”

Mackenzie Lester lost to Sam Becker at first singles, 6-1, 6-1; Sydnie Cochran was knocked off by Nadia Bhatti, 6-1, 6-1, at second singles; and Sydney Govoni turned in a fine effort at third singles before falling, 7-6, 6-4.

In doubles play, Madalynn Perry and Sophie Olson suffered a 6-2, 6-4 setback to Tia Jain and Emma Heinlein; and Ella Card and Izzy Heacox lost to Lina Warrier and Rosa Simon, 6-1, 6-1.

The Dragons are back in action Tuesday when they entertain Conneaut.
