Niagara knocks off Tarp Skunks in ninth inning
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Jamestown batted 1 for 3 in games decided by one run against Niagara over the weekend.
After splitting a doubleheader with the Power on Friday at Diethrick Park, the Tarp Skunks dropped a 6-5 decision on Saturday at Sal Maglie Stadium to see their record drop to 21-9 on the season.
Casey Saucke’s bases-loaded single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning off Jamestown reliever Matt Henson was the difference.
Henson, who earned the save in Friday’s nightcap victory, entered the game Saturday in the ninth with the game tied 5-5 but struggled, retiring just one batter before Sauckle’s game winner.
Four Power pitchers limited the Tarp Skunks to five hits. Ethan Hurte worked a scoreless ninth for the win.
Four runs in the top of the seventh gave Jamestown a 5-4 lead — DiMaggio Cazares and Justin Bowers each had a two-run single — but Niagara scored a run in the eighth off starter Jack Laird and added the game winner in the ninth off Henson.
Cazares had two hits for Tarp Skunks. The Power collected 13 hits, including three from JD Rodgers, and two apiece from Scott Ogrin (double) and Saucke.
Jamestown will be back in action tonight when it entertains Geneva. First pitch is 7 p.m.
