Sheffield posts comeback win over Titusville

TITUSVILLE — First-year Sheffield boys basketball head coach Jordan Copley and the Wolverines improved to 2-0 Wednesday night despite a sluggish start, with a 62-36 win over the Titusville Rockets just days after beating Curwensville by an almost identical score.

“I love seeing them band together like that,” said Copley. “Being down 13-2 in a quarter can really make or break a team, but they banded together and took care of business in the second quarter.”

Tyler Hepinger was a crucial piece of the Wolverines’ comeback, scoring 13 of his team-leading 21 points in the second quarter. Hepinger went six of eight at the free throw line in the first half on top of grabbing seven steals.

“Tyler did a great job in the second quarter attacking the hoop when he needed to, getting good looks, and getting to the line,” Copley said.

At the half Sheffield held a one point lead, but then both Lucas McNeal and Conner Finch were able to step up in the third and fourth quarters, scoring 8 points a piece. McNeal and Finch finished with 12 apiece. Finch also had 10 rebounds.

“As far as the second half goes, once we were able to get a lead we were comfortable with, we were able to slow the game down and distribute the ball evenly,” said Copley. “(We took) advantage of the good scoring opportunities they were giving us.”

Copley noted that Connor Johnson played an equally important role, scoring 6 of his 7 points in the second half.
