Jr. high hoopsThe Beaty Warren Middle School eighth-grade basketball team remained undefeated at 14-0 after wins over Meadville on Jan. 23 and over Rocky Grove on Jan. 27. Caleb Ei led the way with 24 points in last Friday's 45-32 win over Meadville. Jacob Kupchella followed with nine points while Devin McMeans and Griffen Suppa added six each.In a 51-31 win over Rocky Grove, Ei scored 15 points while Kupchella and Suppa each had 10. Colin Blair and Aidan Morrison finished with four each and Marvin Bryant, Jake Funari, and McMeans chipped in two each.Beaty returns to action Monday ...

Freshman hoopsThe Warren Freshmen basketball team split their two recent games, defeating Elk County, 43-36, and falling to Meadville, 49-42. In the Elk County game, Elliott Gross led the Dragons with 14 points. Andrew Davidson and Rylan Fitzgerald each added six points, Colby Johnson added four, Chris White, Kohl Nosel, and Adam Irwin each had three, and Evan Tremblay and Mitchell Bryant both added two.Against Meadville, Gross again led the team with 14 points. Youth soccerThe Kinzua 5th/6th grade in door soccer team defeated the Hot Tamales, 7-5. The victory keeps Kinzua in first place in the Lakewood 5th/6th grade indoor division at the Lakewood Family YMCA.Leading the way offensively for Kinzua was Luke Smelko, John Page and Rylie Yeager, who each scored two goals. Kyleigh Wilson added one goal.Wilson, Ben Berdine, and Zane Anderson were standouts on defense. College newsWarren Area High School graduates Hank Morrison and Matt Jaskolka will spend the summer of 2015 playing baseball for the Martinsville Mustangs of the Coastal Plain League, a wood bat summer league with teams in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Morrison is in his junior year at Mercyhurst University, coming off a season in which he batted .322 with a .458 slugging percentage, 33 RBI and 20 runs scored.Jaskolka will also take the field for the Division II Lakers after transferring from Bloomsburg University this past year.
