Our opinion: It is always Donor Day in state

Last week, a significant day noted something that needs to be considered by residents throughout the year. In a ceremony on Friday, Pennsylvania Departments of Health and Transportation joined health care leaders, organ donation organizations, and families impacted by organ donation at UPMC West Shore to celebrate PA Donor Day and encourage more Pennsylvanians to register as organ donors. PA Donor Day is recognized on August 1 — or 8-1 — a date symbolizing that eight lives can be saved by one donor. More than 6,000 Pennsylvanians are currently on the state’s transplant waiting ...

Our opinion: Dr. Warren would fit with Heroes

We have no clue whether President Donald Trump’s National Garden of American Heroes will ever become reality. The idea has already gone from fast track to derailed once this decade While the House of Representatives has approved $40 million for the project, the Senate has not approved the funding to build 250 life-size statues in a yet-to-be-decided locale. But if Trump’s National Garden of American Heroes comes to fruition, we see no earthly reason why Dr. Joseph Warren shouldn’t be included. The Dr. Joseph Warren Foundation wants at least one more statue of Warren’s ...

Our opinion: Investment is a positive for county

We all want to see huge employers come to Warren County with hundreds of jobs that bring good wages and tax base with them. But economic development and growth doesn’t always happen with Fortune 500 companies. New jobs often come in the form of small mom and pop shops that provide services we didn’t know we needed. Entrepreneurs taking the leap into small business ownership see an unfilled niche and then make a choice to fill that niche. Big-name employers may ...

Our opinion: Take time to visit the fair

We recommend everyone take some time to visit a county fair. Warren County’s Fair begins today and runs through Aug. 9. It perhaps goes without saying that these fairs offer families a lot of fun and a lot of food. But what’s more important is that they offer people from across the county and the surrounding communities a glimpse into important parts of the fabric of rural living. “Agriculture remains a ...

Editor's corner: Once so close, Canada now seems worlds away

CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. — Eight months ago, you could confidently declare the United States and Canada were more than just pleasant neighbors separated by a border. We were, as the saying went, best friends. President Donald Trump’s second term, which suggested early on the annexation of the ...

Warren’s Fourth is always great celebration

Let’s start with the overall July Fourth celebration effort. The volunteers and committee continue each year to provide such a great event and local activity. There’s not another such event in the area that generates that much energy and people to join in and share at a local level, and with it as a national holiday for enhanced respect and value ! The community and visitors owe the Fourth of July Committee great thanks and appreciation for all they do, on their own time and expense! Also, thanks to all the local businesses that sponsor, contribute, and participate. Great local ...
