Our opinion: Warren band rocked in Cleveland
Not many high school marching bands get the opportunity to perform for nearly 20,000 people.
We’re glad the Warren Area High School marching band got the opportunity to do so – even if it did take a mistake by the Cleveland Cavaliers to make it happen.
Last spring, Aaron Reinard, Warren Area High School band director, received an email from a gentleman working for the Cleveland Cavaliers asking if the band would like to perform at a game. After emailing back and forth for a couple of weeks, Reinard found out the Cavs had really been trying to reach out to a marching band from Warren, Ohio.
The team didn’t retract the offer – and Warren’s students didn’t disappoint when they had the opportunity to perform.
Kudos to Reinard and the Cavaliers for making this performance happen. They gave the students, parents and families who traveled to Cleveland earlier this month a memory that will last a lifetime.
“Playing in a huge venue, getting to see the game, spending time with friends — it was electric. And the Cavaliers won, which made it even better. I tried to tell our contact that he had to have us back because the Cavs win when we play, but I’m not sure he was buying it,” Reinard told the Times Observer.
That’s too bad. A return trip would be great for the band. But, for at least one night, Warren, Ohio’s disappointment fueled excitement for Warren, Pa.
