Our opinion: Klakamp’s goal on right path

The goals expressed by the current group of Warren County Commissioners – Tricia Durbin, Ken Klakamp and Dan Glotz – reflect each commissioner’s experience in public service.

Glotz, the longtime county planner, wants to focus on implementing the plans that have been developed. Durbin has been intimately involved in broadband internet expansion in Warren County, a focus she plans to keep for the next four years.

As for Klakamp, the former police officer and county sheriff wants to increase public outreach in the rural areas of the county to let people know of the services the county has available.

We agree with the goals expressed by Glotz and Durbin. It’s important to implement the plans that have been worked on so hard over the past several years, and no one can argue that improving access to broadband internet in Warren County could be a true game-changer for county residents.

But Klakamp’s focus on making county agencies more public facing in rural areas is something that is often forgotten by elected officials. Klakamp’s focus won’t cost the county a ton of money, but it could be beneficial to county residents and generate ideas on ways to improve county services at the same time.

It’s important, in our view, to take government back to the people more often than every two or four years during election season.

Klakamp’s goal is one we can heartily endorse.
