Taking it slow with senior centers

Experience Inc. did the right thing in closing its senior centers during the recent COVID-19 spike in Warren and Forest counties.

But it’s good to see a soft reopening of senior centers in the area starting next week. The Allegheny Community Center will only be open on Monday, March 8, “for a gradual soft opening” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tidioute will be open 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. next Monday, Tuesday and Thursday while Sheffield will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Monday, Thursday and Friday. In Forest County, the Endeavor center will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. next Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Marienville will remain “closed due to the high COVID percentage rate and staff continuing to provide assistance for COVID vaccination information. The Marienville center can reopen if COVID percentages continue to fall.

It was important to close the centers during the most recent spike. We have seen the havoc COVID-19 can wreak with senior citizens. The soft reopening of senior centers is a tentative step toward a return to normalcy for senior citizens. It is tentative, but necessary.

Limitations on activities will remain, but we hope those limitations are reevaluated as senior citizens in our area move through the COVID-19 vaccination process.
