Our opinion: Getting proactive on Fifth Ave.

East Fifth Avenue has been a headache for motorists for most of the summer. Thankfully, earlier this month, there were some temporary repairs made.

Credit goes to the city, the Department of Public Works and Huber Blacktop for their work on the stretch of road that desperately needed attention. What could have made matters much worse was waiting.

East Fifth Avenue will be undergoing a full milling and paving project next year. The city will pay for that project with federal funds.

But no resident or city official wanted to wait that long — or go through another four seasons without improvement. We can all agree, it is a much better ride.
