For the size 17 Vince Carter shoe

Times Observer photo Times Observer Managing Editor Jon Sitler holds the championship trophy for the Times Observer Fantasy Football League, an autograph size 17 Vince Carter sneaker. Yes, we know he’s a basketball player.

The Publisher and Managing Editor punished their employees this week.

Oh, it wasn’t your normal workplace discipline.

But it’s becoming an annual thing.

On Sundays, during fantasy football season.

This weekend, the first-place or championship matchup of the Times Observer Laid Back Fantasy Football League will take place.

And just like last year, the finals will feature a matchup.

Or what is being called in the hallway between two offices at the T.O., as THE rematch.

Mr. Sitler verses Mr. Patchen.

This is bigger than Rocky vs. Apollo Creed.

King Kong vs. Godzilla.

AND definitely Cotton vs. Close for third place.

Because, for the second straight year, this game of luck that we all love and play, but mostly play, features a championship matchup of the same two brilliant football minds.

Sitler versus Patchen.

We have discussed how disappointing it is not to feature our very own sports staff of Hagberg versus Close.

Or our two news reporters who “plot” their next fantasy football move almost religiously.

Nope. It’s Sitler versus Patchen. And neither of us did any preparing more than a glance online 50 seconds before the first pick.

This isn’t just any league either. This league features the guy who refers to himself as The Fantasy Oracle.

But after finishing in the bottom two the past two years in this very league, he’ll be known as something else. He can’t keep up.

Because it is happening, THE rematch.

You can look all over the Internet to find quotes about how hard work creates luck, but great people don’t need to be goaded into greatness. They just are.

But what we love most of all, is just putting these followers in their place. They are great dads, great husbands, great people, just not so great at fantasy football.

We know it, and we love it.

It creates a banter that we can be ahead of. Water-cooler talk that creates a wonderful camaraderie in the newsroom. We don’t mind picking on these fantasy peons, no not at all. Because they asked for it.

So, in conclusion:

Sitler versus Patchen.

If Patchen wins… well…

If Sitler wins… well…

It won’t be Cotton, Ferry, Close, Hagberg…

Hahahahahahahaha.

To quote Lil Wayne, and his song Right Above It.

“You know you at the top when only heaven’s right about it.

We on.”

Merry Christmas. And all in good fun!
