Dorothy Jean Kingsley Collins, 99, of North Warren, PA, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Warren Manor.
Dorothy was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Cambridge Springs, PA, the daughter of the late Nathaniel Lynn and Floy Etta (Keenan) Kingsley. She graduated from Edinboro High School in 1942 and then received her bachelor’s degree at Edinboro University in 1946.
She started her teaching career in Linesville, PA in the fall of 1946 – spring of 1949. She married Plummer F. Collins in 1949, at Cambridge Springs Presbyterian Church. They moved to Warren in the Fall of 1949 and she returned to teaching in 1964. She taught 7th grade math at Beaty Jr. High School from 1964-1988, from which she retired in 1988.
Dorothy was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, was active in the Presbyterian Women’s Guild, a member of the PASR (Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees), the Conewango Valley Country Club, and the Garden Club (active in Civic Beautification).
Dorothy is survived by her two children, Richard A. (Judy) Collins from Rochester, NY, and Cynthia J. (Steven) Strickland from Brandon, FL; five grandchildren, Colin (Allison) Strickland, Casey Strickland, Brian Collins, Connor Strickland, and Kimberly Collins; great-grandchildren, Liam, Emma, and Harper; sisters, Miriam K. Bush of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Alice Kingsley of Cambridge Springs, PA; and several nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Plummer F. Collins, whom she married on July 30, 1949; brothers, John Kingsley, Harold Kingsley, and James Dunn; sisters, Anna Putnam, Thora Dunn, and Donna Kingsley.
A Celebration of Life service and reception for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 Market St., Warren, from 10 am to 12 pm.
