Kimberly McDowell

Kimberly Ann (Kim) Spicer McDowell, 60, of Barnes, PA, passed away on Saturday morning, March 29, 2025, at AHN Saint Vincent in Erie following a brief illness. Kim was born on July 27, 1964, in Warren, PA, the daughter of Norman and Irma (Hilyer) Spicer. She was a 1982 graduate of Sheffield High School. She married the love of her life Arthur McDowell on June 8, 1991, in Barnes, PA.

Kim loved celebrating the holidays. Every holiday she made so special, especially Christmas which was her favorite. Even when some years were hard, she always managed to make it a beautiful day. Cookie baking day was her favorite time of year. Celebrating everyone’s birthday was so very important to her. She wanted to make sure everyone was recognized on their special day, and no one went without a cake or feeling special and loved on their day. She loved the color purple, having her nails painted at the kitchen table, sitting on her porch swing and watching her kids and granddogs, tinkering in the yard, gardening or building things. Just sitting out there taking in the peace and beauty of her backyard watching birds and wildlife with her husband in the evenings. Taking rides with her husband back to their camp in the deep woods and spending the day having a fire and picnic with her family was a favorite summer activity. Spontaneous trips to Walmart or dollar store were her thing. Her kids might get the call at 9 pm “Want to go to Walmart”. She cherished day trips with her son, taking in the views and singing their hearts out to the radio. She loved all animals especially her dog Ruby and her granddogs Thor and Tessa Mae, she even made Christmas special for them and loved watching them open their presents. She loved her time with her daughter horseback riding and doing 4H activities. She had a mental list of hysterical things her son-in-law Douglas would say. He once said, “I just hate it when your worm wiggles off the hook” and she laughed so hard she cried. That phrase along with many others stuck and were brought up and laughed about a lot. She enjoyed her job at the Sheffield Pharmacy, where she was so happy and proud of herself for learning the job and computer and getting to work with her daughter. Kim’s biggest attribute was that of a true loving caring heart. Above all else, she was the most compassionate, kindhearted, and caring person in the world. No one ever felt anything but welcome and loved in her presence, her light was so bright and the world will be more dim without her in it. She was a caregiver all her life, both by profession and in her heart. Being a caregiver to her “sister” Stacy and a longtime friend and caregiver to Mrs. Nancy Swanson of Barnes, whose family meant the world to her. She took care of everyone all the time, no one could ever care as much as she did. Above all else she loved her family fiercely.

Kim’s caring nature shined through her contagious smile. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all the many lives that she touched in her loving caring way. Especially by her loving husband and children.

Left behind to cherish Kim’s memory are her loving husband Arthur (Art) McDowell, at home, her son Joshua (Josh) Snyder and her daughter Alyssa McDowell and son-in-law Douglas Wazner, all of Sheffield, and her brother, Jason Spicer and his wife Linda of Youngsville, PA, many aunts and uncles, but Aunt Ines and Uncle Kirby Lindsey and Aunt Heidi Spicer and Uncle Don Groat, extra special to her, also many cousins, especially Kirby Lindsey. She is further survived by her faithful dog, Ruby.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her “sister” Stacy Lindsey.
