Bruce Lee DePoy, 89, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8th, 2022, at Discovery Village of Sarasota Bay, in Bradenton, Fla.
He was born Aug. 29, 1933 in Sutton, W.Va., to Harry and Ina Wright DePoy. Nicknamed “Poy.”
He was a 1952 Gassaway High School graduate active in 4H Club, baseball, basketball, and football, all while working diligently on the family farm. He briefly attended Marshall College, before his 1953 enlistment in the U.S. Navy.
Bruce spent his work life in construction, a large portion of that as a superintendent in Union Local 214 at Oswego, N.Y. nuclear power plants. He was a kind, gentle, loving man of faith, an avid gardener, and found pleasure boating, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family. He spent the last eleven years of his retirement in sunny Lakeland, Fla., before moving to Bradenton, Fla., six months ago.
Waiting for Bruce in heaven, along with his parents, are his sisters: Margaret and Dorothy DePoy; son, David DePoy; daughter, Cathy Michalak; grandsons, Jeremy Parsons and Joshua Parsons; granddaughter, Sarah Ciraolo.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of almost 59 years, Darlene (McCulla) DePoy from Warren, Pa.; four daughters: Lois (Jack) Voelker, Tina (Vern) Parsons, Janet (Jack) Green, and Cherie (Eric) Darling-Osterwald; 10 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery, on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at 11:30 a.m.
