Hazel Taydus, 91, of North Main Street, Youngsville, Pa., passed away Sunday morning, July 10, 2022, at the Rouse Home.
She was born on Oct. 18, 1930, in Youngsville, to the late Ralph and Rose Finlan Sullivan.
Hazel was a 1949 graduate of Youngsville High School and resided in Youngsville her entire life. On Nov. 7, 1953, she married Walter Taydus at St. Luke Church in Irvine, Pa.
In her younger years, she was employed at Dairyland and at Millie’s Inn as a waitress. Hazel was an honorary member of the Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting and was an avid bingo player who could be found supporting many local fire departments. Most of all Hazel loved any type of gathering to spend time with her family.
Surviving are her children: Rose (David) Freeborough, Martha (Kevin) Phelps, Wally Taydus, all of Youngsville, and Linda Taydus (Rod Nobles) of Warren. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Violet Sullivan and Jean Taydus; and many nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Taydus on Dec. 1, 1993; and a son, John in 2010; in addition to her brothers: Willis, Jerry, Maynard, Clink, and Ralph; and her sisters: Myrtle, Martha, Viola, Phyllis, Edna and Sugar.
Friends will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 314 North Main St., Youngsville, Pa., on Thursday, July 14, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Friday, July 15, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Nancy Schwanke officiating. Burial will follow in the Youngsville Cemetery.
