Warren County cemeteries come together for Wreaths Across America Day

WARREN – Many cemeteries in Warren County will be remembering and honoring veterans with the help of the National organization Wreaths Across America.

On Saturday, Dec. 13, known as National Wreaths Across America Day, people are encouraged to gather at participating cemeteries, where wreaths will be laid on the headstones of local fallen veterans.

Those who purchased a wreath for a specific grave are welcome to receive and place them within the designated 20 minutes. Volunteers will then place wreaths on the graves of the remaining veterans.

On Monday, Dec. 8 the trucks of wreaths will be traveling from Harrington, ME to Warren County.

The Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua as well as other local Wreaths Across America volunteers are encouraging people to line the streets in support as the trucks and escorts drive through Warren and Youngsville.

According to Youngsville Wreaths Across America volunteer Judy Kusminski, this has been done in previous years and was a great success. She shared during Monday night’s planning meeting that people watch, wave and salute as the truck drives through the borough.

Because it can be difficult to plan the exact timing the trucks will arrive, the Blue Star Mothers and Youngsville Wreaths Across America will keep their Facebook pages updated.

“I am incredibly proud of this town,” said Skyla Govier of the Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua during the meeting. “The patriotism is amazing.”

Many cemeteries are looking for volunteers to help lay wreaths and veterans to represent each military branch. Those interested are encouraged to attend the event.

Those with further questions can contact Judy Kuzminski at 814-688-8514. She can then put them in contact with co-ordinators of specific cemeteries.
