Youngsville council sends letter supporting Youngsville High School lease

YOUNGSVILLE – The Youngsville Borough Council sent its letter of support for the lease of Youngsville High School on Wednesday, according to Youngsville Borough Manager Wendy Wilcox.

The council expressed its support for the lease at a meeting earlier this week.

“The high school is such a huge loss to our community, but we have to look to the future and what is going to benefit our borough,” said Wilcox.

Leasing the school would allow other groups to move into the building, such as offices or businesses.

“Its a win-win for the community as well, bringing in more business to our area,” said Wilcox.

A hard copy and emailed copy of the letter were signed by Wilcox and the borough council vice president and sent to the Warren County Commissioners and Warren County School District.

According to Wilcox, the letter states, “We offer our strong support for the proposed lease agreement between the district and the county. It presents an opportunity to restore the vitality and key community assets while fostering new economic and social growth within the borough. The Youngsville Borough commends both the Warren County School District and Warren County Government for their cooperative approach and forward-thinking visions. This collaboration exemplifies a shared commitment to responsible resource management sustainability and long-term community development. We are ready to system and partner in these efforts.”

However, some residents of Youngsville are sad to see the high school go.

“This is such a fast process that is happening. It’s such a huge loss to our community. We want to give them an opportunity to grieve,” said Wilcox.

She shared that the borough hopes to hold an event in the future where members of the community can gather, reminisce and celebrate their time at the school.

“As the borough and as the council, we want to do something for the community to come together,” said Wilcox.

The Warren County Commissioners will vote whether or not to move forward with the lease on Nov. 17. If they decide to continue with the lease, the property will be rezoned to include uses outside of education.

Wilcox hopes the community will rally behind this idea.

“This should bring us together and hopefully make us a stronger community.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
