Man taken to hospital after allegedly being beaten with beer can

A Youngsville woman faces charges after allegedly beating a man with a beer can on Saturday.

Lori J. Baxter, 66, was charged Saturday with first-degree felony aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment after Youngsville police officers responded to an apartment 11:15 p.m. for a report of a possible domestic incident. As the officer walked up the stairs to the apartment, “A male, later identified to be the victim in this case, exited the residence upstairs,” the Affidavit of Probable Cause states. “The elderly male, 82 years old, was covered in blood.”

EMS crews responded to the incident and took the man to Warren General Hospital for treatment and to have his ribs x-rayed. The officer said the man had two cuts to the top of his forehead, a black left eye, blood on his nose, blood around his lips and torn skin on his arms and hands. Baxter, the affidavit states, showed no signs of injury.

The man told officers that Baxter had allegedly been drinking before the two began arguing.

“The victim said that the defendant attacked him first with a beer can,” the affidavit states. “He said that the defendant was hitting him with a beer can and beer was spilling everywhere. He said that he was pushed to the ground several times and continued to try and get him up. He reported the defendant continued to hit, kick and shove him.”

The affidavit states Baxter denied hitting the man with a beer can, though she allegedly admitted shoving the man and hitting him.

“However, she claimed she was acting in self-defense from him,” the affidavit states.

Baxter was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Raymond Zydonik on Sunday, with Zydonik setting bail at $25,000. Baxter was taken to the Warren County Jail until she can post bail.

Starting at $3.50/week.
