Fundraiser dodgeball tournament to be held Saturday

Tournament organizer George Mead with his wife Tori and their children Elliott, GeorgeIV and Kylie.

Dodgeball. The word conjures up different memories for different generations. Whether you remember the red vinyl playground ball used in the 1970s and 1980s or the soft foam being used in recent years the objective remains the same, eliminate all the players on the opposing team.

The game you loved in your childhood is back.

Round up friends and form a team to enter the dodgeball tournament being held on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Farm Colony baseball fields in North Warren. The tournament is organized by George Mead III whose son is affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to support special needs movie nights held semi-annually.

Registration for teams of 6-8 players begins at 10 a.m. the morning of the tournament. The entry fee is $100 per team. Tournament play begins at 11 a.m. Following straightforward rules and relying largely on the honor system hitting opposing players with a live ball or catching a live ball to get other players “out” the games are meant to be fun and competitive. By process of elimination, the first place team wins 50% of the total of collected entry fees. The remainder of the proceeds will be added to the $1,200 donation already received from the Youngsville Sons of the American Legion in support of the movie night being held in October.

DJ Mark Prenatt will be providing entertainment throughout the day and Mother Clucker’s food truck will be on site. Giveaway tickets will be sold to take a chance on the donated meat platter.

Contact George Mead at 814-730-9001 for further information.

Starting at $3.50/week.
