Organized by event coordinator Meghan Kelsey, this highly anticipated vocal competition has quickly become a standout tradition during Warren County’s holiday festivities.
“This competition showcases vocals and talent from all different genres of music, performed by artists of all ages,” Kelsey explained. “Last year, our youngest contestant was 7 years old, and our oldest contestant surpassed 80 years old! There is truly something for everyone at WGT.”
The two-day event kicks off Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. on the main stage at Betts Park, with the finals taking place the following day, Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. and wrapping up by 4 p.m. The top 10 contestants from the first round will return to compete for the win in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
“This year we’ve already surpassed previous years in terms of participation,” said Kelsey. “We have a full show with 22 registered artists who will be performing over the two days. I’ve personally performed and competed with some of these artists at other venues, and I can tell you — they are masters at their craft. It’s going to be a very exciting year!”

Each year, WGT: Drop The Mic draws a dedicated audience of family, friends, and community members, rain or shine. Many spectators visiting Betts Park for the holiday festivities often find themselves drawn to the main stage, captivated by the local talent.
“People tend to wander down to the stage, hear the incredible performances, and they stay — because they’re never disappointed,” Kelsey shared. “It helps that we have two of the funniest, most amazing emcees around — Mike Sharp of the Russell Roller Rink and local comedian Beefy Laughs. They keep the crowd engaged with their witty, lighthearted humor.”
The competition is more than just bragging rights — winners walk away with a generous prize package sponsored by several local businesses. The Music Conservatory, one of the major sponsors, offers an acoustic guitar, free vocal lessons, recording time in their state-of-the-art studio, and other prizes. B & N Trophies & Awards also donates beautiful trophies for the top three winners. In addition, the grand prize winner earns the honor of riding on the WGT float and singing the National Anthem for the pre-parade show, which is televised and streamed online.
“We are grateful for our sponsors who make this event possible,” Kelsey emphasized. “The Music Conservatory, B & N Trophies, All Image Graphics, Nites Lites, Jones Chevrolet, Warren County Youth Network, Mike Sharp, and Beefy Laughs have supported us from the beginning. This year we’re thrilled to welcome new sponsors for the 2025 season, including MAW Productions, Arona Home Essentials, and Mack’s Transport.”
Since its debut in July 2022, WGT: Drop The Mic has grown steadily, becoming a cherished annual event for both participants and the community. “This year marks our fourth annual season,” said Kelsey. “Every year, it gets bigger and better.”
Kelsey notes the roster is full. However, she encourages hopeful contestants to still submit applications. “Sometimes contestants have to pull out last minute — performing in front of hundreds of people can be intimidating. If I have spots open on show day, I’ll fill them in the order I received the registration forms.”
At its core, WGT: Drop The Mic is about celebrating talent, building community, and offering a platform for local performers to shine. As Kelsey puts it, “It takes guts to get up on that stage. But year after year, these incredible performers step up, and they never fail to amaze.”
