The BEE (Being Exceptional Every Day) award was developed to honor any hospital employee who is not a licensed nurse here at Warren General Hospital. The award was created by nursing leadership to compliment the DAISY Award and honor patient care staff who continuously go above and beyond for patients and their families.
Castillo, the 15th BEE Award winner, was nominated by Cindy Nowacki.
“Melissa is a hard working lady, taking time to help and assist with my dietary needs,” Nowacki said. “When the doctors have changed my meal plan, she takes time to sit down and explain how I need to change my food order to follow the plan correctly. She offers suggestions on good things to order that she feels I would enjoy and helps me to get the nutrients needed. She does this for each patient dutifully to ensure we are all taken good care of and she does it in a kind, compassionate and caring manner. I know when I was still working, I always appreciated when a person I assisted reached out to my boss with a kind word. It made my day! In today’s crazy world, it is refreshing to have an employee like Melissa who is a hard worker, compassionate and caring. You need to have her “BEE” a keeper! Thank you for your time.”
Employees may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues. The award recipient is chosen by a committee at Warren General Hospital to receive a BEE Award. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the honoree’s colleagues, patients and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him for Being Exceptional Every day. Honorees also receive a BEE Award pin, a gift card at the hospital’s Window Box gift shop, four free lunches at the cafeteria, eight hour awards day off, and a crystal called the Bumble Bee Jasper, found at Mount Papandayan in Indonesia.

“It is important our employees know their work is highly valued, and the BEE Program provides a way for us to do that,” said Rick Allen, Warren General Hospital CEO.
