Warren girls enjoy Macker experience
The Fierce Friends competed in the 9- to 10-year-old girls bracket, composed of Kallaway Geisler, Mary Bennett, Mallory Warmath, and Clara Haslett and led by coach Ashley Geisler. The team was winless on Saturday but rallied on Sunday, winning two games, the second in pouring rain, which won them the Toilet Bowl Championship.
Haslett said, “I loved playing with friends and liked playing outdoors.”
The Jr. Jackals of Violet Carlson, Nora Gage, Addelynn Geisler, and Emersyn Geisler, were led by coach Kayla Crosby in the eight and under division.
The Jr. Jackals had a rough start in the round-robin play, but they played hard and came away with a third place finish in the coed division, winning their consolation game with a 9-2 victory. Emersyn Geisler said, “The Gus Macker was fun because I got a basket.”
The 3-on-3 tournament, founded in 1974 by Scott McNeal, began as a small backyard gathering and tournament of friends in Lowell, Michigan. However, it has grown into a nationwide event that unites people of all ages and backgrounds through the love of basketball.
