Wednesday tornado siren test successful

Tuesday’s tornado siren test went off as expected.

Public Safety Director Ken McCorrison said during Wednesday’s commissioners meeting that all sirens the county attempted to test “activated as desired.”

He added that the “county activated the things that we have the ability to activate.”

McCorrison said that some residents raised concerns that they did not hear the sirens at their homes.

He said there are other ways for residents to be notified about severe weather – phone apps, weather radios – that the county doesn’t have access to test.

The commissioners approved agreements with IA Construction and the Warren County School District during Wednesday’s meeting.

The agreement with IA Construction was to green light a notice to proceed for the Clarendon Center St. reconstruction.

Grants Administrator Danielle Flasher said that work can commence May 1 and will be wrapped up by Aug. 2 pending a second seal that will be applied in 2025.

The agreement with the WCSD will allow a household hazardous waste event to be held at the Youngsville High School Parking lot on July 10.

Commissioner Dan Glotz said this will be one of two such events in the county this year with another to be held in the city at Betts Park.

The commissioners also approved going after a competitive grant that, if awarded, would offer expanded public internet at the courthouse.
