Survey to go out soon regarding Mulberry Park

A survey will be going to residents in the City of Warren’s northside recycling ward to get feedback on the future of Mulberry Park.

At the heart of the effort to gather data is answering this question – is Mulberry worth a financial investment on the part of the city?

“That’s the golden question,” City Manager Mike Holtz said. “That part of the city does not have their local park.”

The idea for the survey came from the city’s comprehensive plan task force. City council authorized funds for an engineering review for the park, which has a long-standing water issue.

Solving that water issue is a key part of any solution.

Holtz said there are two main options to address that issue – installing a pipe through private property to run the water to Conewango or build up the hill and force the water to Mulberry St. and Frank St.

Department of Public Works Superintendent Joe Reinke said that the city has “never put a plan for” Mulberry.

“Now we are,” he said. “I don’t think it’s an impossible feat to make it dry.”

The survey is expected to go out to residents in that area – as well as be on the city website and Facebook page – early this month.

Starting at $3.50/week.
