Camp Olmsted to be open to the public for eclipse

The Boy Scouts of America Chief Cornplanter Council is offering Camp Olmsted as a place to watch the upcoming total solar eclipse.

Senior District Executive Ernie Crawford said the viewing will take place at the athletic field. Camp Olmsted is located in Elk Township off of Scandia Road.

“We will be at the camp starting at 2 p.m. with the event occurring between 3 and 3:30 p.m.,” Crawford said. “All scouts and their families are welcome.”

He said that those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chairs.

“We will have some viewing glasses available but if you have your own, please bring them,” he added. “Please bear in mind that the Scout camp is not handicap friendly.

The event is open to the public.

“We realize that the eclipse can be seen anywhere in the county,” Crawford said, “but if you want to view it with a friendly bunch of people and see the beauty of Camp Olmsted, come join us for the afternoon.”
