Project out of comp plan taking shape in city

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires that counties and cities enact comprehensive plans.

The implementation then falls to local leaders.

Both Warren County and the City of Warren approved such plans last year.

The first recommendation in the county’s plan that’s received a significant degree of public debate is the Warren Worx concept.

A project in the city’s plan will be pitched to Warren City Council for review on Monday — funding for improved wayfinding signage and gateways into the city.

The city’s Comprehensive Plan Taskforce met Tuesday and discussed the concept.

City staff met with officials in Jamestown last week to look specifically at that city’s approach to wayfinding and gateway signage.

“This is probably one of the first projects we’re going to present to council for some sort of funding,” Director Codes and Planning Randy Rossey said.

City Manager Mike Holtz said the city’s comprehensive plan has “all kinds of topics” with targets that range from easy to hard.

“These were two that were kind of low hanging fruit,” he said.

Information kiosks were one of the improvements discussed. “We’ve had conversations on signage, about letting people know what’s here,” City Councilman Jared Villella said. “This would be a nice building block to start off with.”

Starting at $4.00/week.
