Corry man faces charge in dog’s death

A Corry man faces charges after allegedly abandoning his sick dog in Freehold Township.

Daniel R. Kinnear, 20, of Corry was charged Monday by the State Police at Warren with third-degree felony aggravated cruelty to animals – causing serious bodily injury or death, third-degree felony aggravated cruelty to animals – torture, three counts of second-degree misdemeanor cruelty to animals, third-degree misdemeanor neglect of animals – sustenance/water, third-degree misdemeanor neglect of animals – shelter/protection, and two counts of third-degree misdemeanor neglect of animals – vet care. Police allege the incident took place in April.

Preliminary arraignment was scheduled for Monday in front of Magisterial District Court Judge Raymond Zydonik.

According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by the State Police, a trooper was dispatched to a Sugar Grove Township home on May 15 to speak with someone who wanted to report an animal abuse incident. The trooper said the investigation led to Kinnear, who allegedly had kept a male golden retriever named Rhett locked in a cage in his Corry home for a month.

“During the last month of the dog’s life, (Kinnear) never let the dog out of the cage and only provided the dog food and water twice within that month,” the affidavit states.

The affidavit alleges that on May 13, Kinnear took the dog out of the cage, wrapped the dog in a blanket while it was still alive so his family allegedly wouldn’t see the dog in its poor condition and put the animal in the trunk of his car. Kinnear allegedly drove to Freehold Township and abandoned it in a wooded area off of Route 6 in Freehold Township in Warren County.
