The only way to really learn how to teach is to get up in front of students and give it a shot.
Students in the Early Childhood Development Class at the Warren County Career Center are getting that opportunity.
They were tasked with developing a lesson for students from Creative Preschool focused on the book “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds.
“The goal of the day was for the preschoolers to have a blast while learning and for the Early Childhood Development students to get the opportunity to put into practice all the things they have been learning about this year,” Rachel McClellan, instructor for the Early Childhood Development program, explained.
Each student worked on a station to address an area of either literacy, mathematics, gross and fine motor development, art, music, science, building or sensory play.
“It was an amazing learning experience,” Caidi Stuart, a junior at Warren High said. “We’ve been learning and preparing for this type of hands-on work all year and now we can begin applying these lessons to real life.”
“The program is a new offering this school year and prepares teenagers for possible careers in caring for and educating preschool-aged kids,” McClellan said. “It is quite rigorous.”
“It’s as fun for us as it is for the kids,” Youngsville senior Konstanze Dell said. “Learning through play is an important part of kids’ early lives and we enjoyed having them here.”
